Why do dogs love the snow? Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 January 2010 15:24

It started snowing here on 19 December - and hasn't stopped since.  Whilst it was all very pretty and faintly romantic at first, now it is just a pain.  Despite having a 4WD, the snow is so deep that I have to park half a mile away from the office - and nobody else, like Lynn, can get in which means I am having to do all the work! Never mind having gun dogs, what I could do with right now are huskies to pull a sled loaded with Courses for posting...

But while they may not be much use in the snow, my two flat coats are certainly having fun.  Rosco and I were out working yesterday and he was as crazy and badly behaved as everybody else's dog which set me to thinking: why do dogs love the snow so much?   It seems that dogs of all shapes and sizes simply revel in the white stuff...   If your dog is different, please let me know!

The only problem for my two is that their hair is the sort that tends to gather snowballs, Titus especially.  After an hour or so, they are so covered in balls that they have difficulties in walking.  But they settle down in front of the fire and Titus picks off all his balls which Rosco obligingly eats up!

I wish you all a very happy 2010, wherever you are and whether you are snowbound or not.  Keep your emails coming - this blog just wouldn't be the same without you!
